The key to a successful search on IntelliConnect is a good search expression. And the key to a good search expression is one that includes words that are unique to your specific research topic and avoids common words that may appear throughout the publication (and are unrelated to your research topic).
Your search expression can be made up of one or more key terms for which you want to search, or it can be an exact phrase (surrounded by quotation marks). You can also use Boolean connectors, proximity connectors, or Wildcard characters when putting together your search expression. Your search expression can also be an exact citation for which you want to search!
TIP! Depending on your preference settings, IntelliConnect displays search suggestions as you type your search expression. The search suggestions are created dynamically as you type your search terms in the “Search Expression” field. To perform a search using one of the search suggestions that is displayed, select it from the list that is automatically displayed and then click Go. Note that IntelliConnect displays a maximum of 10 search term suggestions at a time. For more information on turning the search suggestion feature on or off in preferences, see Setting your Preferences.
There are many ways to create a search expression that returns relevant search results:
Think about your research topic and identify unique words that make up the topic.
Construct an expression using these unique words — that is, a keyword, a string of keywords related to your question, or an exact phrase.
If you search by citation, be sure to enter the complete citation in the "Search Expression" field.
Because IntelliConnect also searches the headings of documents, be sure to keep that in mind when putting together your search expression.
TIP! When you search using IntelliConnect, the plural version of a one-word search expression is included in your search results. In other words, performing a search for contribution will include contributions.
However, the plural version of a multiple word search expression is not automatically included in your search results. In other words, performing a search for charitable contribution will not include charitable contributions.
